WHO ARE THESE GUYS TRYING TO KID

I am not an economist. I am a television producer and writer. I have been called a socialist by various fascist members of my own family for at least thirty years. I kind of like that considering the source. However, even though I believe in the redistribution of wealth, why are we, you and me  bailing out the automotive companies with our hard earned money. Shouldn't the people who made the most money off the idiotic decisions and lame management of the big three car companies keep them in business. Who are these guys trying to kid? The oil companies who made trillions off the crappy cars that Detroit turned out should be the ones bailing them out and if not only them how about the insurance companies kicking in their share? I have been in business for almost forty years and if I remember correctly you always keep your biggest customer who provides you with the most revenues in business even if he is a schmuck. So EXXON why don't you step up to the plate and help out your biggest clients? Why not? Peter E

  3. Peter-
Well said. EXXON and the likes of them, should foot the bill on this...or, we should let the free market prevail and allow GM to go under. - ANT

  4. I like your no-nonsense analysis Peter and think you make an important point that makes sense. It seems our government leaders are lacking one of the most valuable possessions needed to lead effectively - common sense!

  5. Peter -

I like your cranky common sense - a good read. Looking forward to more of them.

  7. Love the blog, Peter, keep it up!
I just want to ask....What happened to the love? We swooned when Obama promised real change, and then watch as he served up all the Clinton leftovers, a bunch of who were soon bounced for not paying their taxes or other shenanighans--you can't make this stuff up!
So, the same guys who you can't trust with your wallet as a taxpayer want to bail out and run the banks and the car companies as a start? ...pardon me if I flinch.
Actually, what I really want to know is who is going to bail me out? Contrary to all of the evidence, television producers are people too...how many bad television shows does a guy have to produce to get an Obama bailout?

  9. Peter, I couldnt have said it better myself, if more people would stop and think like you have, then we really could change the world for the better....just some food for thought, here is a letter I think would be perfect for all of us to use this year at tax time...

    Dear IRS,

I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to pay taxes owed April 15, but all is not lost.

I have paid these taxes: accounts receivable tax, building permit tax, CDL tax, cigarette tax, corporate income tax, dog license tax, federal income tax, unemployment tax, gasoline tax, hunting license tax, fishing license tax, waterfowl stamp tax, inheritance tax, inventory tax, liquor tax, luxury tax, Medicare tax, city, school and county property tax (up 33 percent last 4 years), real estate tax, social security tax, road usage tax, toll road tax, state and city sales tax, recreational vehicle tax, state franchise tax, state unemployment tax, telephone federal excise tax, telephone federal state and local surcharge tax, telephone minimum usage surcharge tax, telephone state and local tax, utility tax, vehicle license registration tax, capitol gains tax, lease severance tax, oil and gas assessment tax, Colorado property tax, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma and New Mexico sales tax, and many more that I can't recall, but I have run out of space and money.

When you do not receive my check April 15, just know that it is an honest mistake. Please treat me the same way you treated Congressmen Charles Rangle, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank and ex-Congressman Tom Dashelle and, of course, your boss Timothy Geithner. No penalties and no interest.

P.S. I will make at least a partial payment as soon as I get my Stimulus check.
